Principal Eric Wohnsigl joined Design Collective, Inc. (DCI) in 1999, developing an expertise in design, project management and construction administration across a wide range of project types including multi-family mixed-use housing, lifestyle centers, and a variety of higher education facilities from student housing to sports complexes.
Mr. Wohnsigl specializes in the development and renovation of large, challenging structures requiring complex technical integration of constructability issues and construction detailing with design intent. His expertise comprises project management, high-rise design, construction documentation and administration. He is highly skilled in building and life safety code analysis, accessible design and LEED certification administration.
Committed to integrating conceptual design with superior building performance, Mr. Wohnsigl is a respected expert in the development process for structures involving multiple construction typologies and program goals.
- Under his leadership, DCI is working with the Washington Property Company to design a mixed-use development with 139 luxury rental apartments and 6,000 sq. ft. of retail in downtown Bethesda. The building is targeting LEED Certification and will incorporate a partial green roof and roof terraces.
- Mr. Wohnsigl is overseeing design of the first two residential towers at the 27-acre Blairs Redevelopment in Silver Spring, incorporating a 14-story high-rise apartment building and indoor/outdoor amenity spaces. The second phase is an adjacent 18-story high-rise building.
- Under his successful management, the Rotunda is nearing completion in north Baltimore. This urban mixed-use project was developed around the circa-1920s historic Rotunda building and is bringing new life to the community with an active and flexible town square.
- Mr. Wohnsigl is working closely with The Howard Hughes Corporation, Kettler and Orchard Development on the first two phases of new development in Downtown Columbia that includes 817 residential units and over 42,000 square feet of retail space.
- His leadership was vital to the comprehensive renovations of the Denton Community Quad at the University of Maryland College Park. Renovation of these 1960s-era residence halls enhanced aesthetic and functional quality, improved energy efficiency and upgraded mechanical and electrical systems with minimal disruption to student life.
- For the Village of Rosemont, Illinois, Mr. Wohnsigl guided development of The Park at Rosemont, creating a distinctive and vibrant downtown core. The Park now serves as the focal point of the entertainment district and features flexible spaces and unique seasonal transformations for year-round community gatherings.
As Principal and Studio Leader at DCI, Mr. Wohnsigl is dedicated to mentorship and technical education within the firm to promote architectural excellence and encourage an environment of collaboration and growth.
Mr. Wohnsigl earned both his B.S. and Master of Architecture from the University of Maryland.
